Thomas R. Egbert

Thomas Robert Egbert of Gibsonburg was born October 15, 1948 in Fremont, Ohio to Robert and Helen (Harpel) Egbert He was a 1967 graduate of Gibsonburg High School.

After graduation, Tom proudly served in The United States Marine Corp. with a tour in Vietnam. Upon his return, Tom began his career as a butcher at Smith's Meats. On January 24, 1970, Tom married the love of his life, Susan Smith.

Tom loved spending time with his family and his horses. He enjoyed watching his granddaughter skate, going to Gibsonburg athletic events and was an avid Ohio State football fan. He loved watching the games and fishing with his honorary grandsons Mason and Mitchell Tille.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Susan and daughter Emili. Along with his grandchildren, Mackenzie, Noah, Grace, Cora and great-grandson Antonio; his mother Helen, and brothers: Steve (Diane) of Findlay, Dave (Kathy) of Millbury, Bill (Joan) of Fremont, Mark (Susie) and Paul (Rebecca) both of Gibsonburg; and sister-in-laws Sally (Dale) Copley and Shelli (Roy) Burgoon both of Gibsonburg. He has many nieces and nephews who loved him.

He is preceded in death by sons Chad, Joshua and Jeremy. His father Robert and in-laws Don and Katy Smith.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gibsonburg Athletic Boosters or Gibsonburg Educational Foundation (Egbert Memorial Scholarship).

Visitation will be held at the Herman-Veh Funeral Home & Crematory, Gibsonburg on Friday, July 7, 2023 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, July 8th at 11:00 AM with an additional hour of visitation prior to the start of the service. Certified Celebrant Susann Robitski Zimmerman will officiate. Burial will follow at West Union Cemetery where Military Honors will be conducted in honor of Tom's service.
