Ted R. Smith, 71, of Gibsonburg, passed away on June 21, 2025. He was born in Fremont, Ohio, on February 11, 1954, to Keith and Marilyn (Arndt) Smith. Ted was a 1972 graduate of Gibsonburg High School and attended Ohio State University where he played football. A hardworking man, Ted worked in construction for many years and was a paving superintendent for Shelly Co. until finally retiring in 2007.

Over the years, Ted built countless memories filled with laughter, joy, and shared experiences that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him. As a devoted father and grandfather, Ted savored every moment spent with his kids and grandkids. He was a die-hard Ohio State Buckeyes football fan, cheering passionately on game days and instilling that same love of the game in his family. During quieter times, Ted found peace and happiness working on and relaxing in his backyard, where he also enjoyed the company of his loyal dog, Teddy.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 40 years, Deborah “Debbie” Eckhardt of Gibsonburg; children, Zachary Smith, Kristi (Clayton) McCoy, both of Gibsonburg, Sara Jo Smith (Godfred Amoah) of Cleveland, Lesa Wright (Mike Henry) of Georgia; grandchildren, Levi, Bryce, Jarrett, Sophie, Sam, Smith, Stella, Gigi, Theo; siblings, Amy (Kurt Davis), Mike (Connie) Smith, Craig (Nikki) Smith, Brian (Michelle) Smith. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Randy Smith.

Per his wishes, there will be no services. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
