Steven W. DePottey, "Steve-O", 62, of Fremont, passed away Friday, March 7, 2025 at his residence. He was born July 20, 1962 in Fremont, the son of Daniel and Waneta (Miller) DePottey. Steve was a graduate of Terra Community College with a degree in Industrial Electricity. He worked as the Maintenance Manager for Cornerstone Building Brands and Great Lakes Windows. He often spoke of his work-related travels abroad, viewing them not just as professional obligations but as wonderful opportunities to explore new places.
Steve had a profound love for the outdoors, particularly spending time fishing on the waters of Lake Erie. His adventurous spirit was mirrored in the playful way he interacted with his grandchildren, delighting them with teasing banter and coaching their sporting teams. An avid Detroit Lions fan, he wore his team colors proudly, sharing both the triumphs and trials of his beloved football team with infectious enthusiasm.
Steve's culinary talents were a delight to all who knew him. He was a fantastic baker, the "cookie master" renowned for his delicious chocolate chip and buttermilk cookies. These treats were made with love and shared generously, making his grandchildren's faces light up with joy. It was a tradition for Steve to whip up his famous cookies upon request, creating sweet birthday and holiday memories that will forever be cherished by his family.
Faith and family were the cornerstone of his life. He was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he taught 5th grade Catechism.
Surviving is his wife Linda (Menkhoff) DePottey, whom he married on September 3, 1993; children: Samantha Anderson, Brandi Tucker, Jeanna Adams, Joseph Rodriguez, Julianne (Brandon) Durr; grandchildren: Brooklyn, Boston, Caleb, Berlin, Jeramiah, Carter, Malachi, Cayden, Jaysie, Elijah, Jaryck, Tristan, Chloe, Aiden, Breydn; great-grandchildren: Oliver, Alistair and Raelynn; Siblings: Sandra (Robert) Jenkins, Karen Lockhart, Beth (Ray) Ramey all of Fremont; Jill (Mike) Holewinski of Tiffin, Tina Kosztyo of Port Clinton, Jackie (Mike) Crosser; sisters-in-law Marge DePottey and Deb DePottey and his furry companion Roary. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Daniel and Robert and brothers- in -law Toby Lockhart and Joe Kosztyo.
Steve's warmth and kindness touched countless lives. He had a unique ability to make those around him feel valued and understood, leaving a remarkable legacy of love that will be cherished forever. The imprint he left on the hearts of family and friends is enduring and will be remembered through the stories shared and the memories he created. Steve DePottey lived life to the fullest.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, March 13, from 2-4 and 5-7 PM with vigil services at 7PM, at Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Crematory, 900 North Street, Fremont, Ohio 43420. A Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00AM on Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Fr. Matthew Frisbee officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
