Sheldon A. Johnson, 72, passed away with the loving care of his family by his side on Tuesday, August 19, 2025. He was born in Fremont a son of Albert L. and Doris A. (Kritzell) Johnson on June 15, 1953.
After graduating from Fremont Ross in 1971, he joined the U.S. Army, serving 27 years until retiring as part of the CoB 612 Engineers.
He married the love of his life, Suzanne Hillman at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Fremont on August 31, 1974. Together they nearly completed their 51st year of marriage.
Sheldon worked for Kelsey Hayes a little over 30 years. After its closure, he went to work for BW Supply as a Plant Superintendent.
During his military service, Sheldon collected knives, swords and walking sticks from the different countries he visited. He is remembered as a man that drew strength by spending time with his family enjoying cookouts, spending time at their cottage on the river, sitting by fires, and driving his Mustang.
Left to cherish his memory in addition to his wife are children, Rachael Johnson and Christopher Johnson both of Fremont; grandchildren, Rahshai Scott, Rico Puente, Trayvion Scott, Christial Johnson, Noah Knipp, Kylee Johnson, Patrick Johnson, Kace Milton and Rozlyn Good; and great-granddaughter, Azela Scott.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Phillip S. Johnson; and siblings, Alexia and his twin, Scott Johnson.
Visitation will be held at the Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Crematory on Thursday, August 21, 2025 from 5-7 PM. There will be an additional hour of visitation prior to the funeral service which will be held on Friday, August 22nd at 10 AM. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard and U.S. Army.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Heartland Hospice.
