Roxanna Louise (Polter) Smith

Roxanna Louise (Polter) Smith called her last trump hand early Saturday morning, August 29th, 2026. As was her style, Roxie didn't want anyone making a fuss and she certainly wanted to go out on her own terms. After a full day Friday of family visits and loved ones coming in and out, she felt it was time to go and peacefully departed in the quiet hours of the morning.

You could tell how proud Roxie was of her family by going through the mountains of photo albums showcasing decades of precious memories, some questionable haircuts, and hundreds of moments that allowed her children and grandchildren to see her life through her eyes.

She married Richard Lawrence Smith at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Clyde on June 22nd, 1955 at the age of 18. Together, Dick and Roxie had four beautiful daughters - Debra, Lorrie, Tami, and Mary Jo. The girls have very fond memories of growing up surrounded by family at their home on Route 198. Roxie's sisters, Phyllis and Joyce, also lived on the same road. The Smith home was the family gathering place for swimming, food and fun.

Dick and Roxie spent many Saturday nights together with the "Plaids and Calicos" square-dancing group, playing cards with their dear friends, and weekends camping at their trailer in Howell, IN. Roxie was known for her card shark skills and it was often a difficult task to outsmart her! Euchre, Kings Corners, and Farkle were regulars on family game nights.

Roxie raised her daughters at St. John's Lutheran Church in Fremont, Ohio where she and Dick were active members. A family legacy began there and Roxie was able to witness her children, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren attend services and worship with their church family together.

Roxie is survived by her daughters Lorrie Trusdle of Fremont, Tami (Steve) Hottinger of Fremont, and Mary Jo (Kirk) Tranchita of Newberry, MI; 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and great-great grandson.She is preceded in death by her husband Dick, daughter Debra, her parents Lester and Ruby, and her sisters Phyllis and Joyce.

A memorial service will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church in Fremont, on Thursday, September 3rd, in the Parish Hall auditorium. Visitation will start at 10:30 am, with the service at 11:00, followed by a luncheon.
