Ronald Lee Baker, 86, of Fremont, OH passed away peacefully on December 16, 2023, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo, after a brief battle with leukemia.
Ron was born on November 19, 1937, in Fremont, OH to William (Bill) and Maude (Berryman) Baker.
Ron was a proud member of the Fremont Ross High School graduating class of 1955. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1963 and was discharged to care for his mother in 1964 after the death of his father.
Ron's love of standardbred horses and harness racing began as a young man. He was a longstanding and faithful volunteer at the Little Brown Jug in Delaware, OH and many other county fairs throughout the State of Ohio. His boyhood dreams were fulfilled while employed by Hickory Lane Horse Farm of Findlay, OH. Since 2005, he had been driver-turned-friend of several Indiana Amish communities, providing valuable horse
breeding insight while coming to treasure relationships with the owners/families.
Ron never met a stranger! He left everyone with a smile and a story to remember him by. He will be greatly missed by so many friends and family, including the Crew at Whitey's Diner, the staff at Al Baumann Chevrolet (Fremont), the residents of Fort Stephenson, and the many Amish families of Indiana.
