Roberto "Robert" Vela Sr.

Roberto “Robert” Vela Sr., 63, of Gibsonburg passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at Toledo ProMedica Hospital. He was born on January 15, 1958 to Ramon and Maria P. Cavazos in Harlingen, Texas.

A 1977 graduate of Harlingen High School, Robert worked for Crescent Manufacturing for over 30 years. In 1979, he married Norma Vallejo, and shared 41 years together in marriage. Robert enjoyed playing cards, working on cars, and spending nights falling asleep on the couch with his dog Champ.

Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Maria of Harlingen, Texas; wife, Norma of Gibsonburg; son, Robby (Kelsey) Vela of Perrysburg and granddaughter, Lucie; siblings, Mary (Ruben) Mora of Texas, Alphie Cosby-Vass Nevada, Ramon Vela, Rudy Vela, and Richie Vela, all of Texas; brother-in-law, Toby (Sandra) Vallejo.; sister-in-law, Ana (Ed) Rosenberger; and many nieces and nephews.

Robert is preceded in death by his father, Ramon; sister-in-law, Gloria Vela; and brother-in-law, Bob Vallejo Sr.

A time of public visitation will be held on Friday, February 5, 2021 at Herman-Veh Funeral Home & Crematory, Gibsonburg from 2:00-4:00PM, and 6:00-8:00PM.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Gibsonburg at 10:30 AM. For those in attendance, masks must be worn to enter the building, and wait times may occur outside. 

Memorial donations in Robert’s name may be made to St. Michael Catholic Church.
