Richard "Red" P. Kirsch, 87, of Gibsonburg passed away at his home peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, January 11, 2024. He was born in Gibsonburg to the late Paul A. and Myrtle (Moll) Kirsch on October 6, 1936.
Red was a 1955 graduate of Gibsonburg High School. He served his country in the Marines from 1956- 1958. Though being a life-long farmer, Red worked at the Gibsonburg Grain Elevator, Martin Marietta, Chemi-Trol, and he retired from Madison Township in 2007.
He was a member of St. Michael's Church, Gibsonburg where he married Carole Landis on June 20, 1959. Together they raised their 4 children in the Gibsonburg community, though they enjoyed many wonderful memories at their cabin in the Northern part of Lower Michigan.
It wouldn't be proper to speak of Red without mentioning his devotion to his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had a way of making each person feel special. At Christmas he would always be a spectacular Santa Clause, paying close attention to fine details and making a grand entrance. He also thoroughly enjoyed the many friendships he made over his 87 years and rarely turned down the chance to spend time reminiscing with them.
Left to cherish his memory are his children Kent "Dewey" (Kathy) Kirsch of Gibsonburg, Kurt T. (Jenny) Kirsch of Perrysburg, Kreg P. (Patricia) Kirsch of Gibsonburg, and Kelly C. (Steve) Peeler of Kansas, OH; 8 grandchildren Cassie (Jordan) Diekman, Chelsea (Andy) Schlagheck, Dante Kirsch, Vincent (Emily) Kirsch, Karleigh Kirsch, McKenzie Kirsch, Kaela (Dan) Shaferly and Levi (Jenna) Peeler; 2 step-grandchildren Claire Eckel and Lucas Eckel; and 11 great-grandchildren Gage, Hank, Piper, Bennett, Dylan, Eloise, Kane,Bowen, Jackson, Dawsyn, and Stella.
Friends and family will be welcomed to the Herman-Veh Funeral Home & Crematory, Gibsonburg on Friday, January 19th from noon-2pm for Memorial Visitation with a Memorial Service beginning at 2 PM. Burial will follow at St. Michael & St.Lawrence Cemetery, Gibsonburg with Military Honors being held to commemorate his years of service to our country.
