Richard J. (Dick) Flahiff, 87 of Gibsonburg passed away on January 5, 2026 in his home with members of his family and his beloved dog Buddy at his side. Born on June 12, 1938, Richard was one of four children of the late Richard A. Flahiff and Ruth M. Fisher.
Richard attended Gibsonburg High School. In 1960 he married Geneva Lee Butler.
He made his career at the Nollenberger Truck Center in Stony Ridge where he was the Service Manager.
Richard was a man of many skills and passions. He was a master mechanic and repairman. A car and motorcycle enthusiast, he often brought home used motor boats, mini bikes, and snowmobiles that he repaired and restored for his and his family’s enjoyment. This passion for all things mechanical led him to old broken tractors and farm equipment. He spent countless hours acquiring these antiques and restoring them to brand new condition. He would eventually join with fellow enthusiasts of antique power equipment and become an early member of two newly formed area clubs, the Sandusky County Restorers of Antique Power (S.C.R.A.P.) and the Power of Yesteryear Clubs, where he served in leadership positions as chairman and president.
On July 25, 1993, Richard remarried. He and JoAnn Ostheimer were married at their new family home in Gibsonburg where they lived happily enjoying their hobbies and their numerous grandchildren.
Richard is survived by his sisters; Martha Camden (David Gable) of Gibsonburg and Nancy Francis of Fremont; his children from his first marriage, Joseph Flahiff of Ashtabula, Thomas Flahiff of Gibsonburg, Julie (Ned Fairbanks II) Fairbanks of Pemberville, and Jeanette (Robert) Kiser of Wenatchee, WA.; his step-children, Edward C. Ostheimer II (Steven P. Andres) of Sandusky, Kathleen (Steven) Tullio of Springhill, FL, Nicole (James) King of Castalia, Amy Jordan of Castalia; step-daughter-in-law, Diane Ostheimer, and his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren from both of his families.
Richard is preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn; sister, Eileen Wise of Hudsonville, MI; sister-in-law, Donna Marie Holcomb of Niles, MI; brothers-in-law, William Wise of Hudsonville MI, William Bulter of Gibsonburg, and David Francis of Fremont; daughter-in-law, Kathleen Flahiff of Ashtabula; step-son, Jeffrey S.
