Raymond Earl Hougendobler, Jr., 81, "Hougie" of Fremont, passed away on December 13, 2021 at Elmwood Assisted Living. He was born on June 28, 1940 in Forest, Ohio to the late Raymond and Leah (Parsell) Hougendobler, Sr.
Through the years, Raymond worked at First Star Oil as a manager, Fleetwing Truck Stop, the Fremont Bus Garage, later retiring from Brush Wellman.
He became a member of First Lutheran Church in Upper Sandusky on November 13, 1966. Raymond was also a member of the Fremont Eagles and the Moose.
In his early years he was a drag racer and won the National Championship Drag Races in Indianapolis in 1965. He then went on to work on Sprit cars and loved all of the relationships he built while doing this. He also enjoyed going to all of his grand-daughters' sporting events and playing horseshoes competitively.
Surviving are his children Leslie (Brian Weaver) Laconis, Clyde, Ohio, Ryan (Christina Coppola) Hougendobler Phoenix, Arizona and former spouse JoAnn (Rowe) Hougendobler, Mesa, Arizona. Sisters Barbara Martin Findlay, Ohio, and Ruth Ann (Bill) Price Wharton Ohio, Granddaughter Melissa Laconis Worthington, Ohio many Nieces and Nephews and great Nieces and Nephews.
He is preceded in death by his daughter Melissa Jo Hougendobler, parents, brother-in-law Tom Martin and former spouse Carolyn (Gilbert) Hougendobler.
Memorials may be made to ProMedica Heartland Hospice.
A Memorial Visitation will be held on Friday, December 17, 2021 at the Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Crematory, Fremont from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM Services will begin at Noon.
