Ray Overly

September 16, 1928 — November 11, 2021

Ray Overly, 93, peacefully entered into heaven on November 11, 2021 at Countryside Manor in Fremont, Ohio.  Ray resided most of his life in Bristolville, Ohio and recently had moved to Burgoon Ohio.  He was born on September 16, 1928 in Warren, Ohio to Russell and Hulda (Goswick) Overly. He graduated from Chalker High School in Southington, Ohio. Ray joined the United States Army during the Korean War where he served as a medic. Following an honorable discharge he pursued a career as a steelworker, eventually retiring after 33 years with Copperweld Steel of Warren Ohio. On October 8, 1955, he married Helen Gahagan in Northfield, Ohio, and she survives.

 In his spare time, Ray enjoyed woodworking and was an avid collector of toy tractors, which was a passion he shared with his sons, grandsons and great-grandsons. He was best known for graciously giving away toys which brought joy and memories to many. Ray was also a long standing and active member of the Church of the Brethren in Bristolville, Ohio.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Helen Overly of Burgoon, children: Mark (Emily) of Punxsutawney, PA, Brian (Kimberly) of Dayton, PA, Todd (Debra) of Burgoon, OH, Daniel (Diane) of Punxsutawney, PA, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings: Dorothy Preston, James, Paul, John and Gene Overly.

A Celebration of Life service and burial will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Bristolville Church of the Brethren, 6410 Thompson Clark Rd, Bristolville, OH 44402, or a random act of kindness may be done in his honor.
