Phyllis Marie (Polter) Mauk

Phyllis Mauk, 90, of Fremont passed away, August 1, 2025 at The Chalet at the Vineyards on Catawba.

Phyllis was born June 3, 1935 she was raised in Green Springs/Clyde, OH. Phyllis graduated from Green Springs High School in 1953.

It was in Fremont that Phyllis met her beloved husband, David James "Jim" Mauk after he returned home from the Korean War. Their paths crossed during summers spent with Charles & Vivian Crigger and their five children, sparking a love that lasted 68 years, until Jim's passing. Their loving relationship pegged her as Jim's "Girly", and their July 11, 1954, wedding marked the beginning of a lifelong adventure together in Fremont.

Phyllis retired from JCPenney's in Fremont, OH, leaving a legacy of dedication.

Her life was enriched by dear friends, like Alice & Chuck Willman, and family including Gwen & Jack Krammer, whom she cherished dearly.

Phyllis was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Fremont, OH. Phyllis selflessly served in various roles and positions such as; church council as an Elder, the funeral luncheon committee, Abigail Circle, Rachel Circle, The Apple Dumpling Gang, Women on the Church Committee, as an Officer and was very instrumental in getting the kitchen remodeled in the Parish Hall.

As a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Phyllis's love knew no bounds.

Phyllis leaves behind her son Brad (Chantal) Mauk of Port Clinton, OH; grandchildren: Tyler (Mary) Mauk, Ryan (Daisy) Mauk, Dominique (Troy) Licata, and Stephen Pulter; great-grandchildren: Nina and Scarlett Phyllis Mauk & Mya and Ava Licata; and her sister Roxanne Smith.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband David James "Jim" Mauk and sister Joyce Lentz.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff of Bellevue Hospital, the entire staff of The Chalet at The Vineyards on Catawba, Heartland Hospice and Brandy, her private aide.

A Celebration of her Life will honor Phyllis's memory at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 212 N. Clover Street, Fremont, OH, 43420.
