Paul J. Szakovits Sr., 85 of Fremont passed away on June 16, 2026 at Stein Hospice, Sandusky. He was born on August 18, 1940, to the late Emery "Jim" and Josephine (Yeckley) Szakovits in Fremont.
Paul graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School in 1959. He went on to work for Mosser Construction and retired as a supervisor in 2001.
On November 6, 1972, Paul married Patricia Lamb, and together they have shared over 53 years of love and cherished memories.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fremont and Immaculate Conception Church, Port Clinton, as well as the Port Clinton Elks. Earlier in life, Paul spent many weekends at the Fremont Speedway and worked for Andrews Concessions during the Sandusky County Fair. Paul helped anyone who needed it and easily made many friends throughout his life. His family will fondly remember his heart of gold and attention to detail in everything he did.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Patricia; children, Brian Paul (Laura) Szakovits of North, SC, Lori Ann (Greg) Laurer of Fremont, Scott Alan (Michelle) Szakovits of Clyde, Shawn Marie (Earl) Bagley of Lindsey, and Paul "PJ" James (Kris) Szakovits Jr. of Elmore; grandchildren, Ali, Andy, Isaac, Caleb, Benjamin, Kyle, Kelsi, Carsen, and Phillip; great-grandchildren, Aston, Nolan, Tindall, Riley, Tilian, Taylen, Seamus, Owen, McKinley, and Paul; and siblings, Shirley Chambers, Jo Ann Cook, Diann Hamons, Julie (Bob) Lindsay, and James (Lisa) Szakovits.
Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Emery and Josephine; son, Todd Szakovits, and brothers-in-law, Maynard Chambers, John Cook, and Larry Hamons.
Visitation will be held at the Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Crematory, Fremont on Sunday, June 21 from 4:00-8:00PM with a vigil service at 7:30PM. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, June 22 at St. Joseph Catholic Church beginning at 10:00AM. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Donations in Paul's name may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fremont; Immaculate Conception Church, Port Clinton; or Stein Hospice.
