Patricia J. Sneider

July 16, 1936 — March 21, 2022

Patricia Joan (Welter) Sneider, of Helena, passed away at Elmwood Assisted Living on March 21, 2022 at the age of 85.

Pat was born on July 16, 1936 to Albert N. and Eleanor (Hobart) Welter and spent her life in and around the Gibsonburg community. Graduating as valedictorian of the class of 1954, she headed off to Bowling Green State University, where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Education (1958). On August 10, 1957, Pat married her High School Sweetheart, Herbert R. Sneider, and they spent 52 years together on the Helena "Homestead" before Herb's passing on December 27, 2009.

Pat began her teaching career at Fremont Ross teaching English. Upon starting a family, she decided to forego full-time employment, and served as a substitute teacher at Gibsonburg for many years, occasionally on a semester-long basis, teaching many different subjects. She returned to full-time teaching in 1974 with Biology and Human Physiology as her primary concentration, retiring in 1999. In 1987 Pat received her Master's Degree in Guidance & Counseling from BGSU. She loved teaching and interacting with her students, many of whom attributed her influence to their career choices.

Pat served on the Gibsonburg School Board, Birchard Library Board and Sandusky County Board of Mental Retardation. She was a proud member of Alpha Phi Sorority, Gibsonburg United Methodist Church, Gibsonburg Jr. Federation, the Gibsonburg Historical Committee and Gibsonburg Sorosis, along with various education-related organizations. She volunteered as a Reading Mentor at Gibsonburg Elementary and was recipient of the Gibsonburg "Good Apple" Award and the Jennings Scholar Award, given to outstanding teachers.

Pat and Herb's "greatest joy in life was our children and grandchildren. We lived for that". Survivors include their children, Barbara Jones (Mark Gruner), Brian Sneider (Audrey), Dr. Kevin Sneider (Peggy), Mark Sneider (Missy) and Stephen Sneider (Danielle). Grandchildren Tyler and Travis Jones; Nick and Sadie Sneider; Blake and Samantha Sneider; Eric, Christopher and Alicia Sneider, Lainey Stowe and Isabel Jordan; Ashley, Drew and Lindsay Sneider; Brandon, Aiden, Logan and Aria Hayward. Great-Grandchildren Rylen Jones, Miriam and Clark Sneider, Hope Stowe and a mystery baby due in May.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Suzanne (Su) Harris, infant son Richard and daughter-in-law Holly (Haslinger) Sneider.
