Norma L. Hoffman, 100, died on Sunday, December 21, 2025 at Elmwood Assisted Living in Fremont. Norma was born on April 6, 1925 to Ben and Lucille (Reinbolt) Gabel in Fremont, Ohio. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1943 and from St. John's School of Nursing in 1947 as a Registered Nurse.
On June 6, 1948 in St. Joseph Church, Norma married James A. Hoffman, who preceded her in death in 1996. Norma worked at Memorial Hospital, St. Bernardine Home and the Sandusky County Health Department.
Norma's favorite times were those spent with family and friends. She loved playing golf, bridge, euchre and going to sporting events with her children and grandchildren. At home, she loved to read, watch movies and sports and was a wiz at crossword puzzles. Norma also enjoyed working in the yard and cooking.
She volunteered at St. Ann's School and Church and the Red Cross. She belonged to Blessed Sacrament Confraternity at St. Ann Church, Fremont, Catholic Nurses, Moose Auxiliary, Sycamore Hills Ladies Golf League and the Fremont Senior Center.
Norma is survived by children, Jim (Kristi) Hoffman of Toledo, Bill (Linda) Hoffman of St. Mary's, PA, Mark Hoffman of Fremont, Connie Doolittle (Rick) of Santa Ynez, CA. Her many grandchildren are Ben Hoffman, Nick Hoffman, Brian (Pernille)Hoffman, Adam (Desiree) Hoffman, Brett Hoffman, Drew Hoffman and Keira Doolittle. Norma is also survived by her great grandchildren; Christian Hoffman, Sydney Hoffman, Nolan Hoffman, and Ellie Hoffman. She is survived by sister Karen Gabel. In addition to her husband, Norma was preceded in death by her parents, son, Jack Hoffman; sister Alice Frederick, brothers, Clayton and John Gabel.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the caregivers at Elmwood Assisted Living and Heartland Hospice for the caring assistance they gave Norma.
Visitation will take place on Monday, December 29, 2025 from 3-6PM at Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home, 900 North Street, Fremont, OH; Vigil services will begin at 6P.M.. A Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 AM on Tuesday at St. Ann Catholic Church, 1011 W. State Street, Fremont, OH. Services will be live streamed via the link on her obituary page. Fr. Matthew Frisbee will officiate. Private burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorials can be made to St. Ann Church or SJCC. Online condolences may be expressed at www.hermanfh.com
