Norbert L. Molyet

February 27, 1929 — December 14, 2021

Norbert Louis Molyet, 92, slipped peacefully into Eternity on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at Valley View Health Campus, Fremont. He was born February 27,1929 in Fremont as the second son of Edward and Ludwina (Steinberger) Molyet.

He was a 1947 graduate of Green Springs High School where he excelled in basketball and track. Seven years later, on October 2,1954, he married Marcella “Sally” Brodman at the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation, Carey, OH. A few months later, he was drafted into the United States Army despite the physical limitations due to polio at the age of 17.  He served at Army bases in Kentucky, Texas and Louisiana. He was honorably discharged in response to a letter written by his father that he was needed for the harvest.

Norbert’s career in farming included dairy, vegetable (tomatoes and pickles) and grain farming. He loved the land as God’s gift and was active on the farm until he was 90.  He served as President of River Springs Elevator Board, was an active member on the Water and Soil Conservation District Board and served on the Board for Tomato Growers Association. He was a charter member of Sacred Heart Parish and served as Eucharistic Minister and Sacristan for many years. He also enjoyed serving on the parish council. Most importantly, he loved God and his family was everything to him. He will be remembered for his friendliness, generosity and quick wit that made everyone laugh.

Surviving are his wife, Sally, and children: Sr. Anne Mary, SND; Giles (Anne Karcher) Molyet; Sonya (Rick) Ruppel; Regina “Jean” (Dave) Spader; Robert (Darcy Hansen) Molyet; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.  A brother, Ronald (Cassie) Molyet of Fremont survives along with two sisters: Agnes (Bill) Darr of Clyde and Rita Ralston of Nashua, NH.
