Ned Sleek, 86, of Kansas, passed away July 8, 2026, at Elmwood Communities of Fremont. He was born in Gibsonburg, Ohio, on April 29, 1940, and was one of 15 children to William and Ardella (Ickes) Sleek. Ned attended Risingsun School. A hardworking man, Ned held many jobs over the years, working for Heinz, Basic, Crown, as a bus driver, and did road maintenance for ODOT of Sandusky County.
Ned was a talented musician and loved entertaining people with his music. He was known for playing his guitar and banjo in the Sleek Bros. Band for 60+ years, where he brought joy to countless gatherings and events. He also played music for Burgoon United Methodist Church and eventually at Elmwood when he became a resident there. Ned was also a gifted storyteller, captivating his friends and family with tales that often elicited laughter and joy.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Kim “Lou” (E. J.) Miller of Waterville, Annette “Midge” (Phil) Racheter of Fostoria; grandchildren, Brandon (Hayley) Racheter, Robert (Rose) Hughes, Kevin (Amanda) Hughes, Brooke (Jacob) Williams; 10 great-grandchildren; siblings, Ada Mae Meyers of Pemberville, Tony (Lola) Sleek of Millbury, Gene Sleek of Findlay, Nancy Biddle of Kansas; sisters-in-law, Sue and Sally Sleek.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Earl Sleek, Goldie Bowers, Tex (Louise) Sleek, Wilbur Sleek, Lucy Sleek, J. Ray Sleek, Raymond Sleek, Dorothy Ickes, Roy Sleek and Harry Sleek and brother in laws Ned Bowers and Terry “Popeye” Biddle
.Visitation will be held Monday, July 13, 2026, from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM at Herman-Veh Funeral Home & Crematory, 319 W. Madsion Street, Gibsonburg, OH, 43431. Funeral services will begin at 5:00 PM at the funeral home. Pastor Michael Holcomb will officiate.
