Mary Elizabeth (Rucker) Robertson died peacefully in her sleep Sunday, July 16, 2023. She was
born April 9, 1935, in Newbern, TN, to Jake and Beatrice (Bailey) Rucker. She moved to
Fremont, OH, after high school, where she worked as a nurse’s aide at Memorial Hospital. She
worked at GE for over 20 years until her retirement. Then to keep busy, she worked at Walmart
in their food court, where her grandchildren would try to get free snacks whenever they came in.
Mary enjoyed bowling and was in a bowling league where she won a few trophies. She loved to
travel to new places and was not afraid to go on her own. Mary said, “If I wanted to go and no
one else could, then I went by myself.” She enjoyed meeting new people. After retirement, she
and her friends would often take day trips on the bus to the casino, and they would get together
once a month to hang out. Mary was known as a sweet, quiet person, but she cherished her
independence and did not like people telling her what to do. She loved her grandchildren and
great-grandchildren and loved to spend time with them in the last few years of her life.
Mary is survived by her two sons, Fred (Carol) Robertson and Mark Robertson of Fremont. Her
daughter MarJean (Ron) Karr also of Fremont. Grandchildren Adrianne, Durand (Jen), and
Marquie Robertson, Bea Fields, Jimmy Kiser, Dana Holbert, and Justin Karr. Several nieces,
nephews, and cousins. She had 27 great-grandchildren and multiple great-great-grandchildren
who called her GG. Lastly, her great grand dog Otis, who loved to sit on her lap while they took
naps together in her recliner.
As the last of her generation to pass, she is reunited with her parents, brothers Herman, Isaac,
Jimmy Ike, and Garfield Rucker. Also, her grandson Marcus Holbert.
Mary was loved dearly by her family and, not surprisingly, did not want her family to make a big
fuss over her death. Per her wishes, she will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM
on Friday, July 21, 2023 at Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Crematory, 900 North Street, Fremont, OH.
The family will receive guests one hour prior to services begining at Noon. Lorna McKinstry will officiate. Private burial will take place at Greenlawn Memory Gardens. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Donor's Choice. Online condolences may be expressed at www.hermanfh.com
