Mark Smith

Aug 27, 1958 — Aug 27, 2026

Mark Richard Smith, known to many who loved him as “Marky,” passed away unexpectedly on his 68th birthday, August 27, 2026, in Gibsonburg, Ohio.

Born on August 27, 1958, in Toledo, Ohio, Mark was the son of the late Glenn and Ruth Smith. Mark was widely recognized as a talented welder and fabricator. There was virtually nothing he couldn't repair or bring back to life - able to fix just about anything with little more than a coat hanger, an old t-shirt, and mechanical talent.

Mark loved to make others laugh and have a good time, carrying an unmistakable, infectious giggle and a heart of gold. Whether he was out fishing, cranking up his tunes, mingling with his neighbors and their kids, or relaxing at home with his beloved cats, Maya and Kiki, Mark found comfort in simple routines. Through life’s ups and downs, he remained a loving father and a loyal friend who had a wide circle of lifelong buddies who would do anything for him, just as he would for them.

Mark is survived by his son, Ryan Smith, and his significant other, Lyndsey Brown; his seven grandchildren, Camren, Gavin, Nolan, Brynn, Ellie, Skylar, and Valerie; his brother, Dale (Char) Smith; his sister, Debbie Probst; his close friend and "Sister Sue"; his beloved nieces and nephews, Kati, Angie, Abby, Tori, Nic, Nathan, Jason, Clayton, and Cody; and special friends Dan, Britt, and their kids.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Ruth; his son, Cory Richard; his longtime companion, Diane Dennis; his cherished "adopted parents," Harold and Carolyn Billow; and his nephew, Bryan Billow.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at: Herman-Veh Funeral Home & Crematory, 319 W. Madison Street Gibsonburg, Ohio 43431
