Maria Del Carmen Curbelo

Maria Curbelo, 94, of Fremont passed away at her home surrounded with the love and prayers of her family and friends on September 15, 2026. She was born on February 17, 1932 in Manati, Puerto Rico to the late Ramon Antonio Colon Tosado and Teresa Alicea Tosado.

On July 21, 1962 she married Rafael "Fello" Curbelo at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Fremont.Maria was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the Blessed Sacrament Confraternity. Her strong faith called her to participate in several Bible Studies and religious retreats at the church.

Maria followed her calling to be a housekeeper at the St. Bernadine Home. Through her 24 years of service there, she grew many friendships with the residents lasting past her retirement in 1994.She enjoyed gardening and the time of reflection that came from it. She will be remembered for her delicious Puerto Rican dishes which served as a warm invitation to family and friends, creating countless cherished memories around the dinner table. Maria's home was a sanctuary of love and hospitality, where all were welcomed with open arms and a hearty meal.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Raymond Curbelo of Fremont and Edwin (Michelle) Curbelo of Bowling Green; and grandchildren, Noah Curbelo, Isaac Curbelo, Giovanni Curbelo, Jonathan Curbelo, Jessica Curbelo, Raunel Curbelo.

She is preceded in death by her husband who passed on August 1, 2023; daughter, Carmen Maria Curbelo; and siblings, Ramon Colon, Fransico Colon, Rosa Valle, Teresita Colon, and an infant brother and sister.

Visitation will take place on Friday, September 18th from 4 - 8 P.M. at Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Crematory, 900 North Street, Fremont, OH. A Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 19th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 550 Smith Road Fremont, OH. Additional visiting at Sacred Heart will take place beginning at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the family.
