Margaret M. Spanfellner Gearheart

Margaret M. Spanfellner Gearheart, 91, of Fremont, passed away Friday, November 5, 2021 at Stein Hospice in Sandusky, OH. She was born June 29, 1930 in Sandusky Township the daughter of Carl S. & Florence (Klein) Wammes. Margaret was a 1948 graduate of St. Joseph High. On September 11, 1948 she married Russell W. Spanfellner, he preceded her in death February 7, 1981. On November 30, 1985 she married Teddie Gearheart, he preceded her in death on September 23, 2005

Margaret worked 28 years as a legal secretary for Attorney Thomas C. Stout and also worked in the offices of Joseph’s Department Store and Fremont Realty. Margaret was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she served as a lector, eucharistic minister and rosary leader; and  was a member of Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament; Mary, Queen of Peace Prayer Group & Marian Movement of Priests for Laity and the Rosary Society of St. Joseph’s Church. She volunteered her time to Share & Care and Hayes Presidential Center, maintained memberships with the Senior Citizens of Sandusky County, Golden Threads, Funtastics Red Hatters and Friendly Singles and was a charter member of Plant n’ Bloom Garden Club; Rice Township Ladies Club; Tri- County Secretaries Club and High Hopes Child Conservation League. Her hobbies included making rosaries for missionaries, crossword puzzles and playing computer games.

Margaret enjoyed family gatherings, outings with friends, traveling, camping, and spending winters in Florida with her husband. She loved her family, friends, church and God.

Surviving are her sons Dennis (Gloria) Spanfellner of Monroeville, OH; Gary Spanfellner of Fremont, OH; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brother Earl Wammes and sister Ruth Hill. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, daughter -in-law Moira and siblings Paul, Bernard, Carl Jr., Merle, Edith Overmyer and Marie Wagner.

Visitation will take place on Monday, November 8, 2021 from 4-7P.M. at Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Crematory, 900 North Street, Fremont, OH. Vigil services will begin at 6:30P.M.

A Funeral Mass will take place at 10:00A.M. on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fremont, OH. Fr. Michael Roemmele will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
