Obituary

Leslie “Les” Lundberg, 70, of Fremont, passed away May 23, 2026, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center. He was born January 15, 1956, in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, to Leonard and Jean (Blamick) Lundberg. Les was a 1973 graduate of Fremont Ross High School. On November 28, 1975, he married Linda Blechinger, and together they celebrated 50 wonderful years of marriage before his passing.

As a skilled handyman, he dedicated many years to doing maintenance for St. Bernardine Home and Our Lady of the Pines, where he became a familiar and friendly face. He had a special place in his heart for the sisters and was proud to lend a hand to those who spent their lives serving others—helping to serve the servants of God.

He was an avid plane, train, and automobile enthusiast—a passion passed down from his father, lovingly shared with his daughter, and one he enjoyed passing on to his grandchildren through visits to train museums. A member of the Lakeshore Corvette Club in the ‘70s and ‘80s and later the Liberty Aviation Museum, he rarely missed a chance to tinker with model cars or catch a car auction—just in case the perfect one came along! He also had a deep love of music, concerts, and from time to time, would kick out the jams with local bands.

Above all, Les’s greatest happiness was found in time spent with his family. Whether he was serving as the grillmeister at poolside cookouts or simply enjoying being together, those moments meant the most to him. A family trip to Walt Disney World became one of the most cherished experiences of his life—filled with unforgettable memories that are difficult to put into words. From then on, he made it a nightly tradition to watch the Magic Kingdom fireworks, holding on to the joy of that special time!

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Linda Lundberg; daughter, Lenna (Adam) Gill; grandchildren, August, Anderson, and Lydia Gill, all of Fremont, Ohio; brother, Randy (Therese) Lundberg of Blacksburg, Virginia; brothers-in-law, William (Kimberly) Blechinger of Highland, Illinois, and Bernie (Christy) Blechinger of Woodville, Ohio; his beloved nieces and nephews, Amanda Lundberg, Alex Lundberg, Erica (Jamie) Hasselbach, Ryan Blechinger, Angela (Travis) Ross, Jon Blechinger, and Cara (Cody) Maenle; along with many great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his in-laws, Bernard and Dusty Blechinger.

The family would like to thank all those they encountered throughout these past months for their care and compassion, including ProMedica Memorial Hospital, ProMedica Toledo Hospital, the Dorothy L. Kern Cancer Care Center, St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, and Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Crematory.

Visitation will be held Monday, June 1, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Crematory, 900 North Street, Fremont, Ohio 43420. Additional visitation will take place Tuesday, June 2, 2026, from 10:00 AM until the Celebration of Life service begins at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ProMedica Foundation—Dorothy L. Kern Cancer Care Center, or to the Sisters of Mercy at St. Bernardine Home, 1220 Tiffin Street, Fremont, Ohio 43420. In Les’s memory, those who wish may also honor him by considering quitting smoking or encouraging a loved one to do so.
