LaMar Burkin

LaMar E. Burkin, a beloved father and husband, peacefully passed away on October 26, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on March 25, 1942, in Fremont, the son of Elmer L. and Mary (Joseph) Burkin. 

LaMar spent countless hours working as a mechanic for the Toledo Blade, where he used his talent for fixing cars until his retirement. As a mechanic, he loved the thrill of auto racing. A long time race lover, driver and car owner, LaMar was inducted into the Fremont Speedway Hall of Fame in 2017. LaMar was a member of the Fremont VFW and Fremont Eagles.

He is survived by his lovely wife, Yvonne (Sarah Crosier) Burkin, whom he married on July 31, 1972. Also left to cherish his memory are his son, Joe (Lisa) Burkin; grandchildren, Michael Burkin and Shawnelle (Darrin) Turner; and great-grandchildren, Aurora, Koltan, Weston, and Wheeler.

He is preceded in death by his son, Jeff Alan Burkin who passed at the age of 18; and infant sister, Nancy.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life and the impact he had on all around him on Sunday, November 9th from 2-5PM at the Fremont Eagles.

Memorials in honor of LaMar may be made to the Fremont Speedway Hall of Fame.
