Kenneth L. Smith, 87, of Fremont passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2026. He was born on April 13, 1938 in Helena to the late Earl R. and Ethel Mae (Lerch) Smith.
Kenneth graduated from Fremont Ross in 1956, later serving his country in the U.S. Army from 1961-1964. After his service, Kenneth worked for Brush Wellman for 43 years, retiring in 2000.
On Oct. 17, 1959, he married the love of his life Carolyn Betty Geldin at St. John's Lutheran Church, Fremont.
As an outdoorsmen, Kenneth liked gardening, yard work and fishing. He was an avid Ohio State fan.
He was known for his nurturing spirit, as a dependable uncle who would step in to be there for you at a moments notice, and that continued on throughout the years, as his family grew he continued to put his family and grandkids before himself. He will forever be remembered for his story telling, and the many stories that ended up being jokes.
Left to cherish his memory are children, Kristopher (Kathy) Smith of Dublin, OH, Kassi (Steve) Stotz of Fremont and Kelli (Nicolas) Fernandez-Medina of Boston, MA; grandchildren, Kael & Kate Smith, Grant & Ben Root, Elly & Will Stotz and Beatriz Fernandez-Medina; great grandsons, Brayden and Noah Root; and siblings, Sandy (Robert) Reed of Lindsey and Diane (Carl) Schuh of Woodville.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; and siblings, Donald Smith, Earl Smith Jr., Larry Smith, Gary Smith, Keith Smith, Pauline Conklin, Marjorie A. Roepke and Lyle Smith.
Visitation will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, Fremont on Friday, February 20th from 9-11AM with Memorial Services beginning at 11AM. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Fremont with Military Honors being rendered.
Memorial donations may be made to Grace Lutheran Church or Heartland Hospice in honor of Kenneth.
