Karen L. Smith, 82 of Gibsonburg passed away peacefully on April 3, 2026 at her home. She was born on April 24, 1943 to the late Chester and Eleanor (Angelmeyer) Whitacre. 

She graduated from Leetonia High School and attended Kent State University, graduating with a Bachelor Degree of Industrial Arts. 

Karen was a member of Gibsonburg Sorosis and enjoyed cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes. She treasured the time spent with her family and friends, and will be remembered for spreading joy and light to those she loved. 

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Heather (Tom Zeller) Smith and Jason (Bonnie) Smith; grandchildren, Alexis, Autumn, Austin, Gabriel, McKinley, Teagan, and Emily; sister, Christy (Bob) Steele; and nephews, David and Josh Steele. 

Karen is preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Eleanor; and husband, Bruce. 

Visitation for Karen will be held on Saturday, April 11 from 11:00AM-1:00PM at the Herman-Veh Funeral Home & Crematory, Gibsonburg. Funeral Services will follow beginning at 1:00PM.

Donations in Karen's name may be made to the American Heart Association.
