Joseph Norbert Wasserman

Joseph Norbert Wasserman 56, of Fremont, OH passed away at the Cleveland Clinic on February 16, 2021. He was born October 22, 1964 in Fremont to Daniel W. and Patricia (Hotz) Wasserman. He grew up in Fremont and attended St. Ann Elementary and St. Joseph High School where he graduated in 1983.

After graduating high school Joe worked for the Toledo Diocese as a youth minister. He attended Terra State Community College graduating in 1987 with a degree in Graphic Arts. He went on to further his education at the Pontifical College Josephinum graduating in 1990.

Joe taught Religion and Art at his Alma Mater St. Joseph High where he was well respected and the favorite of many students. The foundation from his childhood ran deep and Joe returned to St. Ann as a choir director from 1988- 2013 and Parish Minister to Fr. Jerry Chmiel. Joe poured his heart and soul into the church community. Fr Jerry said “Joe was the genius behind the renovation of St. Ann’s Church, making trips to Chicago to meet the designer and raising the money to complete the project.”

In 2005, Joe pursued his life -long dream of owning his own flower shop. He opened the doors to Bella Cosa Floral & Hair Studio, where his unending pool of creativity was reflected in all of his work. His artistry and attention to detail allowed him the distinguished privilege of a contractor for Cedar Fair on festivals and events.

He joined the Terra foundation board in 2003, he was the board chair for 10 years. During this time, he was instrumental in raising significant dollars for student scholarships and academic program equipment. He provided leadership for fundraising campaigns and special events most notably, the Terra Gala from 1999- 2020 and the 50th College Anniversary Gala in 2019.

On June 10, 2016 he married John Taylor at the rotunda of Hotel Breakers, Cedar Point.

Joseph is survived by his husband John Taylor of Sandusky, OH; parents Daniel and Patricia Wasserman; sisters Jacqueline Koenig and Julie Honaker all of Fremont; nephew Johnathan (Caroline)Koenig, nieces Danielle (Ryan)Stanley of Fremont and Sydney Honaker of Milwaukee, WS; and a great-niece whom he adored, Amelia Rodriguez.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Norbert and Dorothy (Burgoon) Hotz, paternal grandparents Walter and Florence (Wurzel) Wasserman.

 

Visitation will take place on Friday, February 19, 2021 from 2-7:00P.M. at Herman-Veh Funeral Home, 319 W. Madison Street, Gibsonburg, OH. Masks will be required and social distancing will be in place, some wait times may occur outdoors.

A Memorial Mass will take place on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 1:00P.M. at St. Ann Catholic Church, Fr. Jerry Chmiel will officiate. Services will be livestreamed at www.hermanfh.com Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Terra College Foundation- Joseph Wasserman Memorial Fund.
