Joseph E. Binder III “Joe” “Boobie”, 81, of Gibsonburg, Ohio, passed away August 12, 2024, with his family by his side after a lengthy illness. Joe was born October 12, 1942, in Fremont, Ohio, the son of Joseph E. and Dorothy E. (Rohrbacher) Binder. He was a 1961 graduate of Fremont Ross High School and started his career by owning and operating a gas station in Fremont that he named “Binder’s”. Later, he worked for Whitey’s, Dunn Chevy Olds and Al Baumann Chevrolet as a service manager. He then went into business for himself as the owner and operator of Binder’s Automotive in Gibsonburg. After retirement, he was the co-owner and operator of the Skyway Drive-In Flea Market with his sister.
Joe also had a love of music and started playing the pedal steel guitar at a very young age. He had been a member of several bands over the years and enjoyed attending Steel Guitar Conventions. In addition to music, Joe loved shooting pool and played on many leagues over the years. Some would say he was a pretty good shot! However, Joe’s greatest love was his family and friends and they will miss him greatly.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Robin (Doug) Long of Fostoria, OH, Amy (Shon) Lawless of Genoa, OH, Stephen (Samantha) Binder of Gibsonburg; 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert “Bobby” Binder; brother, William “Woody” Rohrbacher; sister, Carol McGowen, and former wife, Connie Binder.
Visitation will be held August 16, 2024, from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Herman-Veh Funeral Home & Crematory, 319 W. Madison Street, Gibsonburg, OH, 43431.
