James W. Haas

James W. Haas, 75, of Fremont, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2022, at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky. Born September 12, 1947, in Fremont to William H. and Marian (Baumer) Haas, he was a graduate of the St. Joseph Central Catholic High School class of 1965.

Jim was a proud United States Marine, having trained at Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base in San Diego before serving in Da Nang, Vietnam from 1967-1970. He continued to be a support to veterans through his work with various organizations, ultimately spending his final days among friends at the Ohio Veterans Home. After working as an operator at Honeywell for nearly 30 years, Jim began a life of much deserved retirement in 2006. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, American Legion, Moose, Eagles, V.F.W and DAU.

Surviving are his children Briana (Brian) Zak, Ryan Haas, and James (Bobbi) Haas; grandchildren Kayden Haas, Ella Zak, and Hunter Haas; siblings Patricia Durnwald, Marian "Beebe" Kindred, Sharon Beier, William (Kathie) Haas, Lisa Druckenmiller, brother-in-law John Whittaker. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Bette Whittaker; brothers-in-law; William Durnwald, Joseph Kindred, Jr., Fred Beier and Robert Druckenmiller.

The family asks that donations be made in Jim’s name to Fremont VFW Post 2947, 204 Birchard Ave., or to the Ohio Veterans Home, 3416 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, OH 44870.

Visitation will take place on Friday, January 6, 2023 from 3-6 P.M. at Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Crematory, 900 North Street, Fremont, OH. A Memorial Mass will begin at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church 709 Croghan Street, Fremont, OH. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery with military graveside rights performed by the V.F.W. and American Legion. Online condolences may be expressed at www.hermanfh.com
