Helen C. Smith

October 25, 1934 — January 12, 2021

Helen C. Smith, 86, of Fremont entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Elmwood Memory Care, Fremont. She was born on October 25, 1934 in Philadelphia, PA to Louis and Helen (Richardson) Knauth. Helen graduated in 1952 from Lower Camden County, NJ Regional High School and went on to further her education at Nyack College, Nyack, NY. It was there she met the love of her life Jay Smith, and they were married on November 17, 1956 in Willow Grove, PA. They were married 64 years, and their loving covenant lasted here on earth until Jay’s final breath on December 30, 2020. Just 13 days before she joined him in Heaven.

Helen served faithfully alongside her husband who was an ordained pastor for 50 plus years. She taught Sunday School and did other church related activities wherever she was needed. She was very active in the woman’s mission’s ministry and was a faithful prayer warrior.

Helen and her husband had two daughters of which she loved and taught homemaking skills. After her children were older Helen worked for Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA and then volunteered for the Geisinger House of Care.

Left to cherish her memory are sons-in-law, Terry Barringer of Napoleon, OH and Jeff Miller of Fremont, OH; grandchildren, Rachel Miller of Fremont, OH, Andrew (Tiffany) Miller of Helena, OH, Alex Barringer of Grand Rapids, MI, Greg (Megan) Barringer, Delta, OH, Isaac ( Alexandra) Barringer of Waterville, OH, and Jackie Barringer of Canal Winchester, OH; great-grandsons, Theodore and Oliver Miller, Jensen Barringer; and two great-granddaughters, Kinzlee Barringer and Evelyn Barringer.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rev. Jay Smith; her two daughters, Carol (Smith) Barringer and Darla (Smith) Miller; and her brother, Louis “James” Knauth.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Great Commission Fund of the Christian and Missionary Alliance, 8595 Explorer Dr., Colorado Springs, Colorado 80920 in honor of Helen.
