Harold A. Hoffman, 100, of Helena passed away on January 28, 2026 at Valley View Health Campus in Fremont. He was born on February 15, 1925, to the late Lloyd and Mabel (Fausey) Hoffman.
A 1943 graduate of Fremont Ross High School, Harold went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Navy during World War II on the USS Sitkoh Bay.
On September 4, 1948, Harold married Jean Mary Leemaster and shared over 69 loving years together until her passing in 2018.
Harold was a lifelong farmer. He was born and raised on the family farm on Co. Rd. 90 in Helena, which has been recognized as an Ohio Century Farm. Outside of farming, Harold worked for Union Carbide as a millwright before his retirement in 1978.
Harold was a member of the Fremont VFW, Fremont American Legion, the Ohio Farm Bureau, and the Fremont Eagles. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was known by many people as "Blue", a nickname he acquired because of his hunting dogs.
Family and friends will treasure the many conversations with Harold and his love of storytelling.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Diane (John) Johnson of Tiffin, OH, Joyce (Ron) Kowal of Lakewood Ranch, FL, and Richard (Dick) Hoffman of Fremont, OH; grandchildren, Craig Fox, Lisa Young, Jeff Fox, and Alex Kowal; great-grandchildren, Brittany, Alexia, Jordan, Jayden, Jacob, Olivia, and Jenna Fox, Logan and Lance Young, Bryson and Rylann Fox; great-great-grandchildren, Sophia Fox, Noa Green, and Georgia Young.
Harold is preceded in death by his wife, Jean; parents, Lloyd and Mabel; daughter, Judy (Luther) Fox, and brother, Ray Hoffman.
Visitation for Harold will be held from 10:00AM-12:00PM at the Herman-Veh Funeral Home & Crematory, Gibsonburg on Thursday, February 5, followed by funeral services at 12:00PM where military honors will be rendered. Burial will follow at Washington Chapel Cemetery.
The Hoffman family would like to recognize Valley View Assisted Living of Fremont for their compassionate care and dedication during Harold's time there.
Donations in Harold's name may be made to Shiloh Church in Helena, Ohio.
