Gregory "Greg" Joseph Roessner

March 10, 1956 — July 23, 2021

Gregory "Greg" Joseph Roessner, 65, of Gibsonburg, passed away on July 23, 2021, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, with his family by his side. He was born March 10, 1956, to Thomas and Ruth (Reiter) Roessner in Tiffin, Ohio. Greg was a 1974 graduate of Tiffin Calvert High School, where he played football. Following high school, he became an apprentice in the auto body trades, becoming an experienced auto body repairman. He was a technician and manager in area body shops which led to a career as a damage appraiser with Motorists Insurance for 22 years. Greg retired from Motorists in 2017 and worked part-time as an appraiser for Messinger Appraisal until retiring for good in November of 2020. On November 7, 1980, he married Virginia "Ginny" Fork at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, and they just celebrated their 40th anniversary after his retirement in the fall.

Greg enjoyed working on the landscape at his country home property, making it a wonderful place to raise his family and a place his grandsons loved to visit. He loved working with his tractor, gardening, planting trees, cutting firewood, and was the family grill master. When younger, Greg was an avid bicyclist and had even ridden his bike to their marina in Sandusky a few times. He and his wife took up boating as a hobby after becoming empty-nesters and they enjoyed years of trips to the Lake Erie Islands. In fact, they had visited there just a few days prior to his passing. Greg would fish for walleye and perch with family and friends. Their time spent together on the water and at the marina was priceless. Greg enjoyed immensely all levels of football, and it played a significant part in his life whether he was playing, teaching, or watching from the sidelines. He coached his sons' Junior High football teams for several years at Gibsonburg Schools. Those who knew him best describe him as a big teddy bear who was loveable, ornery, and could make anyone laugh. He was tough, never complained, but had a sentimental and soft side too. He could fix and fabricate anything and was a pro at doing his own maintenance due to his meticulous nature. He loved his family beyond measure, and his grandsons could light up his face like nothing else. He will be sorely missed by all those who loved him.

In addition to his wife, Ginny Roessner, Gregory is survived by his children; Brian (Michelle) of Whitehouse, OH, and Brad Roessner of Perrysburg, grandchildren; Nolan and Griffin Roessner, siblings; Gerald (Joanie) Roessner of Nebraska, Michael (Eileen) Roessner, Stephen (Mary) Roessner, Daniel (Teresa) Roessner, Barbara (Richard) Hopple all of Tiffin, and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, David.
