Evelyn L. Wagner, 98, of Fremont, passed away September 6, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Gypsum, Ohio, on August 11, 1928, to John and Julia (Ramsdell) Mackey. Evelyn was a 1955 graduate of Fremont Ross High School. She was a retired beautician, having owned Circle Beauty for many years. She married Steven “Steve” Vargo, who proceeded her in death in 1961. Evelyn then later married Daryl E. Wagner Sr., and he preceded her in death in 2018.

Evelyn loved family get-togethers and she loved to dance, specifically square dancing and line dancing. She was a long-time member of the Fremont Eagles, The VFW, and attended St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Michael (Cheryl) Vargo, Karen Vargo, Daryl Wagner Jr., all of Fremont; 4 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Brenda Vargo.

In addition to her parents and her first husband, Steve, and ex-husband, Daryl Sr., she is preceded in death by her son, Stephen Vargo Jr.; grandson, Wade Vargo; sister, Helen Warren; brothers, Clare, Charles, James, Roger, John "Buzz", and Emmett Mackey.

Visitation will be held Monday, September 14, 2026, from 3:00PM until 7:00 PM, with a funeral service beginning at 7:00PM, at Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Crematory, 900 North Street, Fremont, OH, 43420. Funeral services will begin at 7:00PM at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the VFW Post #2947, 204 Birchard Ave., Fremont, OH, 43420.
