Eric "Rick" Hasselbach

Eric “Rick” Hasselbach, 61, of rural Fremont, died May 1, 2021 after a brief illness. He was born in Fremont on February 3, 1960 to Gary & Darlene (Orndorff) Hasselbach. He graduated from Ross Class of 1978. He served in the U.S. Navy as an Intelligence and Communications Specialist.

He then worked construction, building homes in the Redwood area of Northern California. He returned to Ohio in the summer of 1989, working as a machinist in the Elyria area, continuing with his love of music, and being blessed with twin daughters, Erin and Erica. He returned to Fremont in 2009 to assist in the home care of his mother. Rick was an avid NASCAR fan, Cleveland Indians fan, and was an officer of the Oak Harbor branch of the Cleveland Browns Backers at Howey's House of Brews. He enjoyed woodworking and listening to and playing music.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Erin (Ryan) Cruz of Elyria, Ohio and Erica Hasselbach of Binghamton, New York; grandchild, Rylin Cruz; siblings, Dave (Marsha) Hasselbach of Fremont and Paul (Joni) Hasselbach of Fremont; and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial contributions care of Dave Hasselbach will go towards a college fund for Rick’s grandchildren.

Friends and family will be welcomed to the Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Crematory, Fremont on Thursday, May 6, 2021 from 9:30AM-10:30AM with a Memorial Service beginning at 10:30AM. Certified Celebrant Maureen Pump will officiate. A light luncheon will be provided at Pottery Perfection following the service for Rick. Those attending are required to wear a mask to enter the facility.
