Dorothy "Dottie" Carter, 80, of Fremont, Ohio, gained her keys to open heaven's gate on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born June 13, 1945, in Abbeville, Alabama, to Emma Lee Carter and Charlie Carter, Dorothy was lovingly raised in Fremont, Ohio by her parents, Henry and Emma Lee Carter Hines. She graduated from Fremont Ross High School in 1963 and began her professional journey shortly thereafter as a Fingerprint Analyst with the FBI in Washington, D.C.
Throughout her life, Dorothy held a variety of roles, including line manager at General Electric in Bellevue, cashier and fitting room attendant at Walmart in Fremont, and quality inspector at Whirlpool Corporation in Clyde. Her most treasured role, however, was serving as the building manager at Janel Terrace in Fremont, where she built meaningful relationships and left a lasting imprint on the community she so deeply cared for.
Dorothy will be remembered for her deep love of family. She proudly hosted countless family "functions" and was the one who kept everyone connected no matter the distance. She found joy in reading, shopping, and trips to the casino, and she especially loved the Christmas season, delighting in giving to others. Her home reflected her warmth and personality, filled with her cherished rooster collection. In later years, she and her sisters shared special traditions, including weekly and monthly shopping outings-chauffeured by Patsy-and celebrating one another with family birthday dinners.
Cherishing her memory are her beloved siblings, Patsy Carter, Lillie "Trish" Carter, Josephine Carter-Fant, Wili Carter, Henri Diane Martin, and Derrick (Anita) Hines; her nieces and nephews, Denise (Nelson) Santos, Blaine (Carmen) Hines, Kimberly (Larry) Spann, Jacqueline (Jamie) Barnett, Jamel Fant, Dia Carter, Jabbar (DaShania) Fant, Shanda (Michael) Leis, Christian (Angie) Hines, Robert (Steph) Carter, Emily Smith, Jennifer Martin, Aaron Hines, Megan Hines, Taylor Carter, and Zachary Carter; along with a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly as her own.
With hearts full of gratitude, we extend special thanks to her devoted caretakers and nieces, Taylor and Emily, whose love and care meant so much. We would also like to recognize her dear friends Simone Johnson, Martha Glover, and Sarah Phillips, along with her cherished "best friend," Miss Lilli Wall. Dorothy's presence will be deeply missed by all who had the blessing of knowing her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son Chad Patrick, her brother, Marvin (Dolores) Hines, her great-niece, Lee'Ani McGhee, and her great-great-niece, Adrina Amor.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service beginning at 12:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
