Donald Olmstead, 77, of Gibsonburg passed away on Monday, August 18, 2025 at his home. He was born on September 13, 1947 to the late Glenn and Thelma (Moon) Olmstead in Toledo.
Donald attended Gibsonburg High School, graduating in 1968. He went on to serve his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era, stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. He worked for over 40 years at Martin Marietta as a heavy equipment operator, where he ran the locomotive, euc truck, and frontloader. He retired in 2012.
On May 31, 2015, Donald married Kimberly Myers and shared over ten loving years together. He was a member of Victory Christian Church and enjoyed fishing, day trips to the Amish, listening to bluegrass music, scratching lottery tickets, and wheeling and dealing. His family will fondly remember his ability to find a friend in whoever he sat next to.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Kimberly of Gibsonburg; step-daughter, Nadia (Noor) Alzamami of Seattle, Washington; siblings, Evelyn Turner of Toledo, Jack Olmstead of Ashland, Jim Olmstead of Walbridge, and Darrell (Connie) Olmstead of Marion; in-laws, Rolf and Dot Myers; sister-in-law, Beth Myers; brother-in-law, Brad Myers; as well as many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Also surviving are members of his found family; Lorraine Maxwell, and Kim and Dan McLoughlin.
Donald is preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Thelma; as well as siblings, Glenn Olmstead, Doris Demics, Shirley Ramm, Nancy Tilman, Richard Olmstead, William Olmstead, Dennis Olmstead, and Carol Jean Olmstead; and his beloved dogs, Sammie and Simon.
Visitation for Donald will be held on Friday, August 22 at the Herman-Veh Funeral Home & Crematory, Gibsonburg from 1:00-4:00pm. Funeral Services will begin at 4:00PM on Friday. For those unable to attend, you may Click Here to View Donald's Funeral Livestreamed Services.
