Donald L. DeMars, 84, of Fremont, passed away on July 2, 2026. He was born on November 26, 1941, to the late Myron Louis and Thelma Marie (Stahl) DeMars.
Donald proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1959-1961 and later served in the Army Reserves.
On August 15, 1961, he married the love of his life, Cheryle St. Bonore in Marion, VA, and they celebrated 61 years of marriage before her passing in 2023. Together they owned and operated Mud Creek Bait and Tackle in Fremont for 31 years.
Donald and Cheryle were members of The Church of Truth Ministries in Port Clinton. They also loved to winter in Florida for several months every year.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Jodi (Garie Jr.) Routhieaux of Lisbon, OH, Edward DeMars of Fremont, Deneen (Matt Lahman) Schwochow of Fremont; grandchildren, Kira (Darin Carter) Geesey, Garie (Laura) Routhieaux III, Rachael (Tod) Sanor, Zachary Schwochow, Amanda (Cory) Nichols, Taylor DeMars, Kelsey (Matthew) Hull, Michael Schwochow; great-grandchildren, Maddison Carter, Chloey Sanor, Abbi Carter, Carleigh Sanor, Hunter Hull, Elaina Routhieaux, RaeLynn Hull, Paisley Hull, Natalie Routhieaux, Ava Hull, DeClan Nichols, Emelia Schwochow, and Keelan Nichols; sister, Karen Gerwin; and brother-in-law, George (Marg) St. Bonore.
He was predeceased by his wife, Cheryle; parents; son-in-law, Chris Schwochow; and brother-in-law, Alan Gerwin.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 9, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Crematory, 900 North Street, Fremont, OH, 43420. Additional visiting will be held at the funeral home Friday, July 10, 2026, from 10:00 AM until the start of his funeral services at 11:00 AM. Pastor Brian Hild will officiate. Burial will follow at Greenwood (Kingsway) Cemetery in Fremont. For those unable to attend, live-streaming of Donald's services will be available by following the link provided on his obituary page.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to The Church of Truth Ministries, 3260 E State Rd, Port Clinton, OH 43452.
