Danny Stephens

Danny Stephens, 79, of Fremont, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 28, 2026, surrounded by his family and friends on his 12 year "Lungaversary".

He was born March 24, 1947 in Portland, IN the son of Bonnie (Cox) and Paul Stephens Danny was a bricklayer and worked in construction before opening the Tackle Box 2.

Danny was especially grateful for each and every patron who supported him and his restaurant, The Tackle Box 2. To him, his customers were more than patrons, they were a family. He appreciated every visit, every conversation, and every person who walked through his doors.

Danny was a double-lung transplant recipient, receiving the precious gift of new life twelve years ago, on September 28, 2014. His transplant journey was one that deeply shaped his life and gave him a profound appreciation for the gift of organ donation.

Throughout his experiences, Danny became a passionate advocate for organ donation and was dedicated to raising awareness of the difference that donation can make. He generously supported numerous individuals and families as they navigated their own transplant journeys, offering encouragement, understanding, and hope from someone who knew that journey firsthand. He carried deep gratitude for the gift he received, and he honored that gift by giving back to others, especially the Shriner's, Tunnels to Towers, Sandusky County Humane Society, Cancer Society and numerous other local organizations.

Danny enjoyed fishing and spending time with his beloved dogs: Buoy, Two, Bar and Tackle. He loved traveling and purchasing unique items to decorate his restaurant.

Surviving are his children: Danny (Angie) Stephens, Jr., Sereta Stephens (Al), Tracy (Nelson) Carlson; their mother and former wife Brenda Evans; 6 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; half-brother Ronnie Stephens; numerous nieces and nephews; side kick of more than 35 years Charles (Jody) Yousey; numerous friends and family in Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dick Stephens, sister Darlene Steveson, Becky Keel; and his lady friend of 15 years, Deb Slane.

A Celebration of Life will begin at Noon on Sunday, October 4, 2026 at The Tackle Box 2, 420 Sandusky Street, Fremont, OH. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Life Connection of Ohio.
