Chris Black

Chris Black, 55, of Fremont, passed away on July 19, 2021 at St. Vincent Medical Center. He was born February 6, 1966 to Haldon and Diane (Grubb) Black in Fremont, Ohio. Chris was a graduate of Fremont Ross High School. He attended Eastern Michigan University, BGSU and then the University of Toledo, earning a Master's degree in mapping technology. Chris worked for NiSource and Columbia Gas locating and mapping gas lines. On December 20, 2003 he married Carla Menkhoff at Grace Community Church, and she survives.

Chris was a gifted swimmer. He was on the swim team at Fremont Ross, where held a long standing title, and also swam for Eastern Michigan. He coached for Paralympic swimming and participated in a competition while vacationing in Italy. Chris had some skill with a rubik's cube and found entertainment in solving the puzzle in his downtime. His most beloved pastime, however, was being with his friends and family. Chris enjoyed watching toy trains with his boys and cheering them on at all of their events whether it be playing hockey or playing their instruments.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Carla Black, children, Kelvin, Aidan, Ashton, Karson, Cameron Black, mother, Diane Black, brother Chad (Rhonda) Black, uncle, Charlie, aunt, Mary Ellen and Jim Grubb, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Haldie Black and several uncles.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 23, 2021 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Grace Community Church, 900 Smith Road, Fremont, Ohio, 43420. Additional visiting will be held Saturday, July 24, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the church with funeral services beginning at 11:00 AM. Pastor Forrest Kirchenbauer will officiate. Burial will follow at McGormley Cemetery. For those unable to attend, livestreaming of his services will be available on the main page of the funeral home's website under the live webcasts tab.
