Austin Lewandowski

Austin M. Lewandowski, 31, of Gibsonburg, Ohio, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2026, with his loved ones by his side. Austin was a one-of-a-kind person who lived life on his own terms. Stubborn and bullheaded? Absolutely. Austin had his own way of doing things, and good luck convincing him otherwise. But underneath that hard-headed exterior was a kind heart and a willingness to take risks and live life his way.

Austin lived with diabetes since infancy, and those who loved him knew the struggles he faced throughout his life. Despite those challenges, he found joy in the people and things he loved most.

He enjoyed nights spent around a fire with friends, simply hanging out, laughing, and making memories. He had a love for his swords and knives, and most recently was excited about learning to shoot pool with his dad and stepmom, Rita.

Austin wasn't perfect, and he certainly never claimed to be. He could drive you crazy one minute and have you laughing the next. He was stubborn, kind, adventurous, and completely himself—and that is exactly how those who loved him will remember him.

Austin was greeted in Heaven by his Grandma Judy, Uncle Rick, Aunt Nikki, and cousin Conner.

He is survived by his parents, Joe (Rita) Lewandowski and Regina (Bill) Mayle; his siblings, Holly (Brandon) Shammo, Alexis (Daniel) Costilla, Brooke (Matt) Costilla, Billy (Maddie) Mayle, and Sarah (Kyle) Joy; 8 nieces and 4 nephews; two nieces yet to arrive, who will grow up hearing all about their Uncle Austin; as well as many grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who loved him dearly.

In true Austin fashion, even in his final moments, he found a way to make an impact. Through organ donation, a part of Austin will continue living on in others, giving people the opportunity for more time, more memories, and more life. While his family will never be ready to say goodbye, there is comfort in knowing that Austin's story doesn't end here.

Austin will be deeply missed, endlessly remembered, and probably still argued with in everyone's head from time to time. Because if Austin taught us anything, it was that he was going to have the last word—even if he wasn't actually there to have it.

A time for friends and family to visit will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026 from 1:00-4:00pm at the Herman-Veh Funeral Home & Crematory, Gibsonburg. A dinner will follow at Madison Street Tavern.
