Alfred E. "Al" Reiter, 75, of Helena, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2025. He was born January 25, 1950, in Fremont, the son of Philbert and Frances (Sloma) Reiter. Al was a 1968 graduate of Fremont Ross High School and went on to work as a heavy equipment operator. He was a proud member of Operating Engineers Local 18, where he worked for 56 years.

Al was often found outdoors—cutting wood, working in his garden, or heading out mushroom hunting. He had a passion for raising cattle and took great joy in vacationing with friends and family, his adventurous spirit always leading the way. He could often be found at state and county fairs, enthusiastically supporting local events, or fishing with his brothers. He especially enjoyed golfing in the Men’s League at Sycamore Hills.

A dedicated community member, Al served as a 4-H advisor for the Gibsonburg Rural Leaders and was Chairman of the Sandusky County Fair Beef Committee for an impressive 25 years. In years past he bowled, participating in both men’s and couples’ leagues, and enjoyed many evenings at card club with friends and family.

Al was a devoted grandfather who rarely missed his grandchildren’s sporting or school events—his proud presence was always there to offer encouragement. After retiring, Al embraced a more leisurely routine, often starting his mornings as the first customer for coffee at the Helena Market. He enjoyed road farming, visiting with friends, and sharing laughter that left lasting memories. His voice and laughter were more than sounds—they were part of his presence; woven into the memories he leaves behind.

Surviving is his wife, Elane (Neeb), whom he married March 2, 1973; children: Mark (Beth) Reiter of Helena, OH; Kelly (Scott) Weickert of Lindsey, OH; Krista (Chad) Markel of Mooresville, NC; Brad (Rhonda) Reiter of Lindsey, OH; grandchildren: Taylor (Colin) Timmons, Lindsay, Kelsey, and Sydney Weickert; Camryn, Brynn, and Gracyn Reiter; Camille and Carmen Markel; Jacob and Lauren St. Clair; great-grandchildren: Adrian and Cash Timmons; siblings: Dorothy Borys of Fremont; Mary (Roger) Rosser of Lambertville, MI; Paul (Kathy) Reiter, Leonard Reiter, Bill (Shar) Reiter, LaMar (Cindy) Reiter, Vince Reiter, Larry (Denise) Reiter, Dale Reiter, Steve Reiter, and Marsha (Ron) Sherman, all of Fremont, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Donald Reiter; sister Barb Wilhelm; and in-laws Ray Borys, Mary Kay Reiter, Paul Wilhelm, and Kay Reiter.
