Albert C. Stokes, Jr., of Fremont, passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at the Alpine House, Fremont. He was born on August 23, 1924 in Sandusky, Ohio, to the late Albert C. and Helen J. (Ickes) Stokes.
As a WWII veteran, Albert served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946, being stationed in the South Pacific.
Albert was a 1942 Fremont Ross High graduate. He furthered his education, obtaining his bachelors degree in business from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. He worked at the Fremont Savings Bank for 28 years and Chemical Waste Management for 12 years before retiring in 1986.
On October 28, 1944, Albert married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Agnes Claus at Grace Lutheran Church. They shared 66 years of marriage until her passing on September 25. 2011. He and Aggie traveled extensively in their motor home. In his spare time, Albert enjoyed reading, playing bridge, and gardening. He was active in the community, being elected to the office of Fremont City Treasurer in November 1953 serving two terms. He also served on boards of the YMCA, the Luther Home of Mercy, Grace Lutheran Church, and was a member of the Exchange Club.
Surviving are his children, Georgia (Craig) Boehlke of Bluffton, SC, Rebecca (David) Prasuhn of Fremont, William (Louise) Stokes of Apple Valley, MN; grandchildren, Melissa Boehlke, Benjamin Boehlke (Clay Steely), Tim Prasuhn, Emily Wonder (Bryce Blessing), Tyler (Elise) Stokes, Matthew Stokes; and great-grandchildren, Aaliyah Edmond, Serena and Juliet Stokes, Addalyn and Kenzley Wonder, Cayden Blessing, and bonus great-grandson, Layne Blessing.
In addition to his parents and wife, Albert was preceded in death by an infant son, John, and his brother, Robert E. Stokes in 2003.
Visitation will be held at the Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Crematory, Fremont, on Sunday, November 10, 2024 from 4-7 PM. Funeral services will be held at Grace Lutheran Church on Monday, November 11, 2024, at 11 AM with Pastor Clayton Bailey officiating. An additional hour of visitation will be held prior to the services at the church. Burial will follow the service at Oakwood Cemetery with Military Honors commemorating his years of service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church or children's department of Birchard Public Library, Fremont.
