Gerald Lawrence Skip Walby, 72 of Helena, passed away Sunday at home. He was born on October 8, 1932 in Millersville, to the son of the now-deceased Lawrence and Loretta (Nopper) Walby. On November 26, 1955, in Fremont, Ohio, he married Sharon L. Halbisen. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Sharon L. Walby of Helena, children, Kevin (Nancy) Walby of Gibsonburg, Jeff Walby of Fremont, Joe (Lyne) Walby of Gibsonburg, Bill (Kellie) Walby of Lawrenceville, GA, Beth (Scott) Stevenson of Gibsonburg, sisters, Pat Boukissen, of Vero Beach, FL, Kathleen Freeh of Castalia and Eileen Randolph of Fremont as well as eight grandchildren Syna, Nick, Sarah, Scott, Jordan, Justin, Jacob, and Kyle. His parents, and his daughter, Kelly Walby in 1981, precede him in death.
He was a life-long farmer, truck driver and an entrepreneur. He wintered in Florida and loved playing euchre, dancing to big band music and frying Lake Erie perch with family and friends. He was a member of the Eagles, Moose, Elks and the VFW in Fremont. Visitation will be held on Wednesday 2-5 & 7-9 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Gibsonburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, 10 a.m. at St. Marys Catholic Church, Millersville with Fr. Ted Miller officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice and St. Marys Catholic Church, Millersville, OH in lieu of flowers.
