Douglas "Doug" R. Elmer

Douglas R. Elmer, 55, of Gibsonburg passed away on Monday, Apr. 23, 2018 at UTMC. He was born on Feb. 10, 1963 in Fremont, the son of Walter and Ruth “Susie” (Balsizer) Elmer. 

As an all-around athlete, Doug graduated from Gibsonburg High School in 1981 and attended Miami of Ohio University on a football scholarship.  He later gained his Journeymen’s certificate, worked at Chrysler Jeep as an electrician and was a member of the UAW Local 12.

Doug enjoyed sports and loved watching his family participate.  He was a very proud brother and uncle.  He was also a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Gibsonburg.

He is survived by his parents of Gibsonburg; sisters, Kim Hill, Pam (Tony) Mazurek, Debby (Steven) Cantrell and Susan (Chip) Henderson, all of Gibsonburg; nieces and nephews Heather (Jim) Hall, Lindsay (Clyde) Ickes, Andrew & Abby Cantrell, Emily Mazurek and Libby & Tyler Henderson; and great niece, Ali Ce Ickes.

Doug is preceded in death by a baby sister and his grandparents.

Friends and Family will be welcomed on Thursday, April 26, 2018 from 1-8 p.m. at the Herman-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Gibsonburg. Funeral Services will Friday, Apr. 27, 11 a.m. at Faith United Methodist Church where visitation will begin at 10 a.m.  Rev. Max Ulderich will officiate.

Burial will be at West Union Cemetery, Gibsonburg.
